Do you feel like we’ve overdone it with the front-end? With the rise of static site generators, the JAMstack, stuff like HTMX, BFFs, metaframeworks, and the general return of server-side rendering, it’s time we had a chat about where we went wrong with the over-reliance on the client-side, why we got there and how we can get back to a more balanced approach.
Join the first-ever State of the Stacks, a very informal panel discussion about the current state of web development, where we’ll talk about the current trends in web development, the good, the bad, and the ugly, and what we can do to improve things.
Panelists
Our panelists have been selected to represent a range of opinions and experiences. Most importantly, they’ve all been around the block a few times and have seen the web go through a few cycles. Considering the topic and the format, expect opinions to be expressed, disagreements, and a lot of fun.
To give you some context on where each panelist stands on the FE-BE spectrum, we’ve asked them to answer a simple question: Where do you stand on the FE-BE spectrum?

”I’m mostly a data transformation and data flow guy, so I’m on the back side of the frontend and the front side of the backend.”

Where do you stand on the FE-BE spectrum?
”I usually sit on the lower backend but I can appreciate a good frontend as well. These days it seems like we have a lot of infra for frontend as well. Given our trajectory, will we need a frontend DevOps soon? 😀“

”Middle, facing front; I mostly do front-end work. I’m okay doing server-side stuff, but cloud infra and ops make me wanna listen to blues and drink. Heavily.”

Since we have limited seats, we’ll need you to register for the event. It’s free; you can do that by filling out the form. Base42 can accommodate around 60 people. If you’ve registered but can’t make it, please let us know so we can give your seat to someone else.
